Random samples

Will, Laya, and I have begun our interview process. Initially John-Michael recommended looking into a way to randomly select the students in our focus sessions. We reached out to a professor he recommended and asked how to conduct a random survey of students to email. In this whole process, we hit two walls. First, Laya found through conducting her own random, number-based participant search, that people she didn’t know tended not to respond to the interview request. Second, the professor told us we needed access to a directory of students to select a group randomly. Which we didn’t have. So, moving forward, we are doing our best to contact a varied sample of participants. I thin this is the best way to work, especially at the end of the semester when maybe only our good friends would spare an hour in their study time to answer interview questions.
