I had my first interviews (two focus groups of two students each) this past week. I focused on the user research portion, not the prototype version. When Erika was here, we decided as a team that for each interview we would only use one set of questions (either user research or prototype testing) so as not to overwhelm people. I gave my interviewees the Summit gift card, they ordered drinks, I started the recorder, and then we talked. It ended up being a good move to interview students in pairs. The tone seemed more casual, and I felt like we got more honest, open, vulnerable answers, than if the meeting were a one-on-one. This coming week I’ll have two more focus groups, this time focusing on the prototype design. This will be different because I’ll be using my computer and pointing to things on it. We’ll see how it goes.
